Djl - Linux game repository

New repository information has been added to the Linux Game Database:
If you see this icon Djl on a game page you can get the game from the Linux game repository.

The Linux game repository can be used with any Linux distribution. Games can be installed directly from the repository but associated libraries need to be installed from your distribution repository and this has to be done manually.

New LGDB domain: www.games4linux.de

Well, not really, when i was looking for alternative domain names (just for fun) i discovered that the domain http://www.games4linux.de was still free, so i got it. It's just a link to http://www.lgdb.org. So nothing really changed Wink and i don't intend to promote it apart form this news.

Changes on LGDB

A lot is changing, something smaller and something greater, i hope no one is confused Wink
A part from cosmetic changes and usability improvements the whole image handling system will change. well, the process already started and since every database entry has to be updated manually it will take some time until everything is changed. Please apologise if the visual impression is inconsistent., or images are occasionally missing.

On a more technical side the Brilliant Gallery module will be ditched in favour of the Image Upload module, giving authorised users the opportunity to upload images. If you are interested you can take a look at all modules used: Colophon.

Visual enhancements

Games can now be represented with a nice banner, take a look here: Nexuiz, here: Alien Arena and here: Battle for Wesnoth. I will update the game pages if i have a banner.

New attribute

Games in early development are listed on the frontpage under upcoming games sorted by anticipation. These games can not be rated but you can vote for them if you wait for the finished version.

New repository info

The information if a game is available as a binary package in the Ubuntu or Packman (openSUSE packages) repositories has been added to the database....

The update process for Ubunut is complete, packman information will be done in the next days. More information can be found on the distribution attribute page at: http://www.lgdb.org/taxonomy/vocabulary/19

New feature

Latest news for a game are now displayed directly on the game page, the first games with news headlines are: jClassicRPG, SDL Ball and Glest. If you like your news displayed along with your game, let me know.

LGDB on Debian Today

An article about this project was posted on the Debian news blog Debian Today. I'm especially happy about the second part cause a lot work was devoted to the filter methods and usability is a basic aspect. Filters only work if the content is properly categorized so point out the faults Wink
A direct link to the news entry.

Submit a game

Every registered user can now create game content. This feature is just a test and probably not enough documented, comment if you encounter a problem.

Just provide as much information as you can, missing bits will be added later by LGDB staff, publishing a new game entry will also be done by staff.

Have fun!

New categories

In addition to the games that are listed on this site, there will be two additional section for game tools and for game engines. feel free to post a comment what tools and engines should be listed here.

Maybe a section game emulators will also come in the future (mhm... and wine and derivatives should also be listen somewhere haha Wink)
