The game is OpenSource!

Why is the game marked as "Closed source"? It is the real OpenSource project! The code is under GNU GPL and all data (voiceovers, dialogue, graphics, sounds, and music) is under CC BY-NC-SA. Proof
Check it, please, and let there be Freedom!

NC isn't freedom

toney's picture

Why so?

I think that NC does not restrict free non-commercial redistribution. Just imagine the fat dude, that sells free opensource game, which he did`t made! I think that if the Ur-Quan community wanted to sell it, they would choose other license.

Well, I think you'll need to

Well, I think you'll need to draw a line between open source and freeware, and don't forget paragraph 2 and 3 which is in conflict with your imagination.

Source code

Paragraph 2: Source Code. Here it is!
Paragraph 3: Derived Works. The licenses are GNU GPL and CC, both of them allow modifications and derived works, and allow them to be distributed under the same terms as the license of the original software.

Right, and I understand your

Right, and I understand your anger, but per definition it isn't a open-source game. Of course, the engine is, but the game data is not and an engine without game data isn't a game...

WTF!?

Dear sixsixfive, now it is my turn to misunderstand: why do you say, that game-data is not free and open? Is not CC a free license? The only restriction is commercial use - but who cares? Use, modify and freely redistribute (don`t sell) game-data under the same license! Maybe you mean that the existence of license is restriction?

I think that we'll finally

I think that we'll finally have to introduce that separate open/closed tag for resources, otherwise we will always have some misunderstanding on how to interpret closed/open source. Let's see what pheonton thinks.
