Heroes of Newerth, a session-based, multiplayer, Action-RPG, is heavily inspired by the popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients (DotA), but with vast improvements in graphics and gameplay. In Heroes of Newerth, two teams of up to five players each take on the role of special Hero units. With the assistance of AI-controlled armies, each team sets out with the sole objective of destroying the other team’s base. As a match progresses, players can earn experience and gold which can be used to upgrade skills or purchase items to make their character more powerful.

good game - poor community
To bad i will start with a negative comment, cause i really wanted to like the game, interesting gameplay, nice graphics and sounds. But i'm not gonna play it anymore cause the community is full of haters and flamers.
It was my first game of this type and i never played the Warcraft III mod "Defense of the Ancients" so i consider myself a noob. but thats not sufficient, if you are a beginner, don't even bother looking for servers labeled: "noob", look for "mega noob" or "ubernoob" servers but even that wont safe you from getting insulted because of "wrong" gameplay. If you want to give it a try, take a friend along, after all its free at the moment.

I agree with you the community sucks; if they see you as a newbie they vote a kick. It happened to me a lot. Because of this i have managed to play only 3-4 online matches before deleting this game.
The graphics are nice and well build.
Rate the game, not the people who play it.
This game is great. I'm addicted to it. There are lots of different heroes to choose from and I really enjoy the game play. The game does take a lot of strategy and understanding. Not only of the characters but also of the items and how they affect the game. I've never played "Defense of the Ancients" but quickly picked up the game, but its taken longer to master the game. I'm very happy with the game and have pre-purchased it for $30.
Worst game from S2, after 2 hrs it purged

I can't play the DoTA-style, as it like dabilo style and never want to figure out how to spell this type of spells/abilities on mouse keyboard combination on right timing.
This is /not a common game to me, it also suck the newbies like me a lot.
OK, the only S2 Game I gave a trash mark for the boring gameplay.
