Like everything else on Steam trash if you are on 64bit
The .deb on the steam website will refuse to install on a 64 Bit system and they do not offer alternative downloads on their webpage.
Both Steam and Half-Life run
Both Steam and Half-Life run flawlessly on 64-bit Fedora. So, there's no technical reason to disallow installation on a 64-bit machine. If you can somehow trick your package manager into accepting it you should be fine.
