GemRB (Game engine made with preRendered Background) is a portable open-source implementation of Bioware's Infinity Engine.
It was written to support pseudo-3D role playing games based on the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset (Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series, Planescape: Torment). It runs on GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, BSD, OS X, possibly other UNIX derivatives and exotics. It is licensed under the GPL.

auto-installer.sh missing
It is impossible to install games on GNU/Linux, because the installer is hidden or non existent.
auto-installer.sh, what that
auto-installer.sh, whatever that may be is not maintained by us, so it is not an officially supported way of installing gemrb, games or the demo.

Compiles fine
I could compile the sources (from git) with no issues whatsover following the instructions here:
http://www.gemrb.org/wiki/doku.php?id=installation
The minimal dataset test works, but I don't own any game that uses infinity's engine, so I cannot test further.
I will try to get hold of one of the supported games and report the result
