i checked with iceweasel/firefox and chromium and cleared all caches, should be ok. maybe f5 will help.

I find this placement most convenient as many sites put the search bar on the far right of my tiny screen. In fact, off the right of me screen, where I can only use it by blindly tabbing to it and the button.
