Game: FLARE

I'm sure the engine will be used to make some great games.

The game that comes with FLARE should be retitled, here are my suggestions:
run like hell
run for your life
run or die a miserable death
stopping is not an option

You can also make your own levels, which is nice and I give extra points for.

Game: AstroMenace

I'm not sure why it is marked as closed source because the code is GPLv3 and the data creative commons BY-SA 3.0. It is open source.

It is fun to play and great graphics.

My only complaint is the difficulty settings are a bit unusual. You would think 60% difficulty is only a bit more difficult than 50% .... but you would be very wrong. Still, with default difficulty it works very well.

Game: 0 A.D.

It certainly looks good, and it looks like it can become something like Age of Empires or similar RTS. However, it is still in alpha and things aren't too playable or ironed out.

Still I rate it highly because it is good even in this state and it can be so much better when they finish or get to beta.

The betas were all very buggy, but now that it is stable the problem is that it gets boring fast. It is also quite easy to die in some areas.

I would have preferred more linear quests, and in order of difficulty. You can easily get in over your head, and you don't always know where to go.

It is enjoyable for a while, but only about a few hours, and then it just gets repetitive and difficult.

Another thing I don't like is the spellblaze theme, but that's just IMO.

Game: Stunt Rally

I don't know if anyone here can keep the car on the track, but I sure can't. In fact I get nauseated every time I try to play it due to the wild and unpredictable movements of the car.

It's supposed to be based on vdrift, but in vdrift it is quite easy to control the car. Too bad recent versions don't compile tho.

Note that I have tried all methods of control including joysticks and they don't help. I've also messed with the settings and they don't help. Something is severely wrong with the controls.

It lacks dynamics and some of the bosses are absolutely impossible to beat.

The main character moves quite slowly, his actions are not very dynamic, and the quests are rather boring.

I don't know what could have been done with it to make it a better game, but for sure making the main character move faster, and have more skills would have helped.

It is more tedious than fun to play, unfortunately. I have tried it every few releases since it came out and I was hoping it would get better.

It is similar to FLARE, but I can't be sure if it uses that engine or just the graphics (more likely). Quests are being added with each release, which is nice.

The menus are a bit large and unusual, but maybe that is because it has to work on multiple platforms, including mobile.

I would say it is better than FLARE because you actually have a purpose. FLARE should be renamed to "run like hell".

Overall I like it, I think it can be developed into a great rouge-like RPG.

Game: Stendhal

Stendhal 1.06 adds lots of new sounds and sprites. Winter has ended and all snow is gone.

The new Special Edition of the game upgraded the graphics to add cel-shading, lighting, and simple shadows. There's also no more instant death, an inventory system, more levels, and lots of other features from the new Dirk Dashing 2 engine.
